Purpose Building’s Response to Bill 23

Purpose Building believes that the draft More Homes Built Faster Act (Bill-23) needs to be changed to create housing that is affordable and a thriving economy that can endure for generations.

We support the goal of increasing access to affordable housing, but as proposed, Bill 23 removes municipal authority to set “sustainable design” requirements for building construction (not just homes). This will hinder homeowner affordability and reduce Ontario business competitiveness.

We’ve presented our position and recommended amendments to Bill 23 in a letter to Ontario’s Standing Committee on Heritage, Infrastructure and Cultural Policy Committee.
